The conventional deadlift is a great exercise to build lower body strength, but often times people lack the necessary mobility to perform the exercise safely and effectively. If that is the case for you the sumo deadlift may be a better option because:
1️⃣ It requires less hip flexion and internal rotation.
2️⃣ It allows you to be more upright. Which is great for those with prior lower back issues.
3️⃣ It is also a good option for those with a longer torso and shorter arms, or those who have retroverted hips.
In this video CDSF coaches Mike Sirani and Dan Jones cover scenarios when you should consider performing the sumo deadlift.
