4 Tips for Staying Hydrated Throughout the Day

Making sure you’re consuming enough water throughout the day should be a priority regardless if your fitness goals are weight loss, performance-based, or just to feel better and have more energy.

In today’s post CDSF Registered Dietitian and Precision Nutrition Level 2 Coach Samantha Sirani talks about why water is important for your body and gives you four simple tips to increase your water intake and stay hydrated every day.

Why is Water so Important for our Bodies?

Water makes up 60% of our total bodyweight and has many functions in the body like: to transport things to and from the cells of your body, to act as a solvent, to flush and clean organs like your kidney and liver that remove toxins from our bodies, to lubricate our joints and digestive tract, to act as padding and shock absorption for your joints, and to regulate your body temperature.

Also, if your goal is weight loss consuming more water can help aid in reaching that goal by making your feel fuller and serving as a replacement for calorie containing drinks like juice and soda.

How Much Water Should I Drink Every Day?

A simple equation to determine how much water you precisely need is for every lb. of bodyweight  you should consume .5-1 oz of water. For example, if you weigh 200 lbs.  you’d require between 100-200 oz. of water per day.

Also, whole foods like fruits and vegetables contain higher percentages of water and make it easier to improve hydration from food sources.
