How to Work Around Shoulder Pain for the DB Bench Press

Today’s post is a clip from our Monthly Video Series, PT to the Gym with physical therapist Pat Suarez from Suarez Sport and Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Here CDSF coach Mike Sirani and Pat go over modifications you can make to your DB Bench Press if you’re experiencing shoulder pain.

The DB Bench Press is a smart alternative to barbell bench pressing for those with shoulder pain, but when performing the exercise you still should be focused on a couple technique points to make sure you’re keeping your shoulders in good positions.

✅ Turn Your Arms Palms to Face Each Other, called a Neutral Grip, to take stress off of your rotator cuff.

✅ Keep elbows at 45 degrees and have elbows just meet line of your body at the bottom position.
